The Local Government Unit under the administration of 𝗠𝗔𝗬𝗢𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗨𝗘𝗟 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗔 conducted the 3-day 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 (𝐁𝐍𝐒) through the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) MS. CHARISSE NORINA MA. A. RANILE last August 24-26, 2022 at Senior Citizen Building in this locality.
The first day of the course started with a proper program through an opening prayer and singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by the introduction of the participants and guests. MNAO Charisse Norina Ma A. Ranile gave a welcome remarks to the participants motivating them to be more active in the programs pertaining to Health and Nutrition.
After which the participants were tasked to leveling of expectations by the first resource speaker Ms. Marie-Claire A. Gaas and also she gave the Overview of the Training Course. The Guidelines in conducting training and the Supervision and Monitoring of BNS were presented while having their nutrition snacks.
The Module 1 “THE BARANGAY NUTRITION SCHOLAR PROGRAM” was discussed by Ms. Floricel N. Denopol covering 4 sessions namely: Legal Mandates and Rationale of the BNS; Selection, Recruitment, Benefits and Incentives of a BNS; Roles and Function of a BNS; and Core Values of a BNS respectively.
Ms. Charisse Norina Ma A. Ranile MNAO presented the Module 2 that covered the topic on “Basic Concept on Food and Nutrition”. The topics focused on Understanding Food and Nutrition Concepts and the second was about the Malnutrition Forms, Causes and Consequences.
In the afternoon, Ms. Marie-Claire A. Gaas tackled the Module 3 “Developing Skills of the BNS” with seven sessions namely: Communication Skills; Presentation Skills; Advocacy Skills; Documentation, Report Writing, and Record-Keeping; Time Management; Organization Skills; and Coordinating Skills.
In Day 2, the Module 4 was on Situating the Barangay Nutrition Program in the Local Development System with three sessions to include Nutrition Program Management: Definition, Principles, Characteristics, and Uses; The Barangay Nutrition Program in the Local Development System; and the BNC: Organize, Mobilize or Reactivate.
Module 5 included the topics on the Role of BNS in Barangay Nutrition Program Management; The BNS in Assessing the Barangay Nutrition Situation; The BNS in Planning; The BNS in Implementation; and the BNS in Monitoring and Evaluation.
Considering that the training involved lecture, hands-on demonstration, and workshop, Module 6 highlighted the Basic Course for BNS: A Synthesis. It covered the synthesis of the Basic Course for BNS Training; Presentation of the Re-entry Plan; Post-test and the Overall Training Evaluation.
During the third day, they conducted workshops on the Problem Free Formulation and Formulating the BNAP after which a presentation of the Overview of WHO-CCS/Growth Chart (Measuring a Child), and another workshop on the Ranking of Projects. Several topics were still discussed in the afternoon covering Nutrition during Pregnancy; Nutrition in the First Two Years of Life; Basic Course for BNS, a Synthesis; Overview of PIMAM and Malnutrition Program, Guidelines, Roles and Responsibilities; Identification of SAM; Community Mobilization; and Managing and Organizing a Program in LGU Logistics, supply and Management.
In the closing program, Mayor Manuel Talocod Saladaga expressed his gratitude to the resource speakers from the regional and provincial nutrition council for the opportunity of undergoing the said training as well as to the participants who actively joined the training. He mentioned that this kind of training is equally important for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) to effectively perform their roles and functions, and eventually become well-versed in nutrition program management.
